My experience was disappointing primarily because of repeated delays, communication issues, and incomplete or unsatisfactory services during the production process. The package included editorial services, formatting, cover design, publishing setup, marketing services, author platform setup, and promotional materials. While some work was eventually completed — cover design and formatting — the project took significantly longer than represented to me, and I ultimately had to hire an independent editor outside the company because I was not satisfied with the editorial process provided. The initial formatting submission also required correction and revision before meeting expected publishing standards. After extended delays and missed expectations regarding completion timelines, I terminated the relationship for nonperformance and delay and moved forward independently with my own formatting, cover design, ISBNs, and publication setup. The project extended beyond the timelines I was originally led to expect, and I ultimately chose to terminate the engagement before publication was completed. While Northstar maintained communication and expressed a willingness to continue working on the project, I no longer had confidence that the remaining work would be completed within a reasonable timeframe or to the standards I expected. To Northstar’s credit, they did continue communicating throughout the dispute and consistently expressed willingness to complete the project. However, once the relationship deteriorated, the communication became highly legalistic and adversarial rather than solution-oriented. Authors considering this company should make sure that: all timelines are clearly documented in writing, deliverables and approval stages are specifically defined, ownership rights are clearly understood, and expectations regarding revisions, editing quality, and publication schedules are carefully clarified before payment. My experience ultimately led me to complete and publish the project independently. Amendment: In response to the company's reply, I want to clarify that my review does not claim that no work was performed. My concern was that the project experienced significant delays, certain deliverables required correction or additional work, and I ultimately retained an independent editor and completed portions of the publishing process myself. My review reflects my personal experience regarding timeliness, quality, communication, and overall value received relative to what was represented at the outset of the project. Amendment #2: After this review was posted, the company contacted me and offered a 25% refund in exchange for removing this review, signing a confidentiality agreement, and entering a final settlement. I declined the offer because I want my review to remain available for other authors. Readers may draw their own conclusions.
