The instructor was not only knowledgeable about blender but also how to break it down into kid friendly steps and language. They would consistently check in on the students and encourage them to share their screen and to ask question. My child enjoyed the class time together and looked forward to what they're going to create the next day! He also spent several hours outside of class working on the projects that had him highly engaged.
The camp was well run, logistically, and my daughter was excited to go to camp everyday. However it seems like over half their day was spent on the computer playing games or watching videos. The computer games were supposed to be "kid appropriate" but apparently they were found by the kids by searching google. For what I paid, I expected more.
he came home with crunch lab builds that didn't work. He has done 3 years of crunch lab boxes and most of them work when he builds them at home. I think he was distracted at the camp to build it properly. all the builds he brought home didn't work, and he said he messed up on a step or 2, which does not happen when he builds at home. so yeah... I just paid over $1000 to have him go build the crunch lab boxes that he would have built better at home, by himself. definitely will not be returning to this camp.
Great Hands-On Building, But Didn't Meet My Expectations
I enrolled my son in the iD Tech camp focused on CrunchLabs engineering kits, and we had mixed experiences. What Worked Well: The hands-on building component was a hit. My son came home every day with a newly engineered and designed CrunchLabs creation, and he was genuinely thrilled with the physical projects he completed. From a product-building standpoint, that aspect was very successful. Areas for Improvement: Unsupervised / Unannounced Screen Time: I was very disappointed by the amount of unstructured internet access provided. Kids had open access to YouTube and online games throughout the day—something I was not informed would be part of the camp experience or curriculum. Lack of Direct Instruction & Engineering Theory: I expected a structured, lesson-based environment where instructors/experts taught the underlying engineering facts and principles behind each build. Instead, the kids mostly followed the step-by-step instructions on the computer at their own pace. Following digital instructions is something we can easily do at home; we joined the camp specifically for expert guidance, deeper educational insights, and group learning. Time Allocation: The actual time spent designing and engineering felt brief when compared to the full length of the camp day. Final Thoughts: If your child just wants a dedicated space to put together CrunchLabs boxes, they will enjoy it. However, given the cost and reputation of iD Tech, I expected far more active mentorship, rich educational lessons, and tighter guardrails on screen time.
My son had an amazing experience at this tech and robotics camp! He looked forward to going every day, had so much fun, and learned a lot along the way. He made new friends, enjoyed the hands-on activities, and came home excited to share what he had built and discovered. The camp was very well organized, and the staff created a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. We couldn't be happier with the experience and would highly recommend it!
During the Nvidia and AI and ML course, my grandson was struggling to keep up and resolve technical issues. When I contacted the Director at the Stanford campus they made an effort to determine what issues were preventiny my grandson from keeping up with the course over the several days the continued to communicate with me and provide me with information of my grandson's progress. Even though my grandson was was falling behind, his counselors and other staff helped him and encouraged him to focus and a small project which enabled him to resolve the technical issues and complete his project by the end of the course.
The facilities at NYU were underwhelming. The students really didn't have enough space to battle their bots. Parent communication was also lacking. There were no details given about what the students were learning throughout the week. No introduction was given to parents about the instructors. My child did not find the camp particularly special or different from other robotics camps he has participated in, which was disappointing given the high cost of tuition.
This is our third year at ID tech and my kid really has loved the experience a begged to come back year after year. This year, however was filled with issues which have forced me to offer a less than glowing review. The camp ran out of robot parts and had to order more, so the kids spent 2 days not building robots as promised. It’s a robotics camp without robotics material?! Further, during those non-building days the kids were given a lot of time to play Roblox and they had the campers sign up for chat using facial biometrics without confirming this with parents. Red flag level privacy violation for my 11 yr old kid. As I said, I had been so happy with this program in the past. All that being said, my kid still enjoyed camp and loved the cal lunch. As for me, I’m not sure if we will be back next year.
We enrolled our son in the in-person, full-day Python and AI Agent Camp because we expected him to learn directly from live instructors in a classroom environment. Instead of receiving instructor-led lessons, students learned through pre-packaged online learning materials at their own pace. They read the online instructions and completed coding exercises independently, while the instructor was primarily available to answer questions as needed. When I called the camp director to express my concerns, I was told that this is a self-paced learning camp. However, this was not clearly stated in the course description. Had we known that the camp relied almost entirely on self-directed online learning, we would not have chosen ID Tech. Another disappointment was the daily schedule. Students were given approximately 1.5 hours to play video games while the instructors took their legally required breaks. We tried hard to limit the video game time at home and did not expect the student to get 1.5 hours of free screen time at the camp. As a result, the actual learning time was only about 3.5 to 4 hours per day, despite being advertised as a full-day camp. Ultimately, we chose to skip the final day because there were no meaningful learning activities scheduled. Instead, the agenda consisted primarily of promotional and marketing events, including T-shirt distribution, raffles, a parent meet, and a family showcase. We did not feel it was worthwhile to make another two-hour round-trip commute for activities that were unrelated to learning. Overall, we feel that the camp did not deliver the in-person instructional experience that was represented in the course description. If the self-paced, online nature of the program had been communicated clearly from the beginning, we would have made a different decision. We hope ID Tech will provide more transparent descriptions of its camp format so families can make informed choices and have expectations that align with the actual experience.
The staff were all friendly and attentive and seemed to work so well with my son who is Autistic and has ADHD. I felt he was in great hands all day and never worried about him!
ID Tech Camp was an amazing experience for our 12 year old. He learned a lot and got outside of his comfort zone sleeping away for the week. Camp is run like a well oiled machine with every day scheduled to keep them busy and entertained.
My kids had a great week at this program and learned so much. They loved exploring their interests in animation and 3D printing while also being introduced to exciting new ideas. The staff were welcoming, engaging, and did a wonderful job inspiring the kids by exposing them to different career paths. We really appreciate this opportunity for our kids to learn, explore, and grow!
We want to express our sincere appreciation to the iD Tech team for the exceptional experience provided this summer. We are very proud of his cognitive and psychological growth throughout the program. As this was his first time away from home and family in a foreign country, the welcoming environment helped him overcome his sensitivity to new settings and unfamiliar people. The Caltech campus and residential experience expanded his perspective and motivated him to pursue higher academic aspirations. The staff demonstrated both care and professionalism—remaining attentive to students’ needs while also encouraging independence and self‑discipline.
My son had a great experience learning Minecraft coding. Most of time he used AI to write code. His motivation stayed high and gained new skills to enter the coding world. I think that it was definitely a challenges yet rewarding environment for him. Thank you .
There wasn’t as much learning as I expected. The last two days of camp didn’t involve any learning at all, or any construction - just fighting of the robots. I feel I paid too much for what I got.
This was such an amazing experience for my son. He loved it and enjoyed working in a group. The instructors were patient and very knowledgeable . The director is amazing !!! I highly recommend this camp !
This was my son's third year attending ID Tech, and every year has been a wonderful experience. While he's always enjoyed the camp, this year was especially meaningful. He came in with some prior knowledge, but he was continually challenged and encouraged to step outside his comfort zone, learn from his mistakes, think critically, and persevere when things became difficult. His instructor, Jake, created a supportive and encouraging environment where my son felt comfortable asking questions, experimenting with new ideas, and growing his skills. It was incredible to see how much he learned—not just technically, but also in confidence and problem-solving. We're so grateful to Jake and the entire ID Tech team for providing such an inspiring learning experience. We would love for our son to continue attending ID Tech every summer for as long as he's eligible. Thank you for creating such an outstanding program for him and so many other kids!
