Healthy paws insurance has been great for our dog. I never had insurance before & it’s been worth it our dog has torn 2 acls & has an auto immune disease. It is so easy to file claims & get reimbursed, no hassles at all. I thought dubmitting claims would be way more involved so I’ve been extremely happy with healthy paws. Rates have gone up but I have a German shepherd & have had many claims. Would definitely purchase again!
Our dog's treatment is expensive and ongoing for almost two years. The insurance rate has increased modestly yearly but with no threat of cancellation even though this our second go-round with a fatal disease for a beloved pet. The claim process is easy and the payment is quick.
UPDATED REVIEW-they prioritize their bottom line not your pet
I highly recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance to everyone that is looking for the peace of mind insurance coverage offers. (WAS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW) I AM EDITING THIS REVIEW AS OF 8/10/2026. I have been paying premiums for 90 percent coverage with a 200 dollar deductible, each month for the past 12 years for my certified therapy dog, Benson. He turned 12 years old on August 8 2026. Healthy Paws, which I thought was a reputable company that cared about the animals they insured, without notice and not written within the original agreement, decreased the coverage to 70 percent and increased the deductible to 500 dollars. I am beyond upset about this. I am paying $238.02 in monthly premiums for this change in coverage??????? Ridiculous!!!!! I have kept this policy active for all of these years paying much more in premiums than I am remimbursed in claims for the major reason of having him well insured into his old age when he will have a higher likelyhood of needing specialized medical care. I AM SHOCKED AND UPSET by this. If you are seeking healthcare coverage for your cherished animal, realize that HEALTHY PAWS DOES NOT HAVE YOUR AGING ANIMAL'S WELLBEING AS A PRIORITY. THEY OBVIOUSLY PRIORITIZE THIER BOTTOM LINE.
I have been a Healthy Paws client for 14 years. I had been very happy with the company and their coverage until this year. As an extremely loyal client, I would have expected to be grandfathered in to the policy deductible and reimbursement rate that I originally signed up for when my dogs were pups. Instead, when I needed Healthy Paws most for my now elderly Goldens, they doubled my deductible and reduced my reimbursement rate by 20% while lowering my mo they payment very little. I have accepted and understood increases to my monthly payment several times over the last 14 years without complaint. I understand rising costs and their decision to no longer offer the package I originally signed up for, but in my opinion to change my policy that drastically while having 11 and 14 year old Golden Retrievers was very disrespectful to a loyal customer. I believe they should have allowed us the package we chose back when we needed them much less with young dogs for the life of my animals. Obviously changing companies now would be close to impossible, but I cannot say in this moment that I will choose them for my next dogs.
My dog had an emergency. She got suddenly ill, and required transfer to a larger 24 hour vet hospital with more equipment to determine what was making her sick. Healthy paws paid the claim very quickly, like direct deposit back within 48 hours. I'm glad I had this coverage for this very unexpected emergency. And my dog is doing much better now, recovering well and on the mend.
Henry, my golden retriever has had many medical issues, specifically allergies, which Healthy Paws has helped with medical bills. 10, last fall, he injured his wrist and again, Healthy Paws has been there through two surgeries and assorted setbacks along the way. We would not have been able to afford the necessary treatments without Healthy Paws!
Healthy Paws used to be a great company. My older dog has been covered for nine years and I got coverage last year for a new dog. I just filed my first claim for the younger dog and it's been a nightmare. Every day I get a message from them saying that they haven't been able to get my dogs medical records. Each time I call, I get different information from their service representatives (who are very hard to understand). I called one of my vets to ask them about the status of Healthy Paws request for information and they said that they hadn't received it. My dog hasn't even been to the other vet that they're trying to get information from since I purchased him from the breeder. So frustrating - I will probably move my younger dog to a different insurer or maybe just self-insure.
Healthy Paws is the best pet insurance we have ever had. Our dog had to be rushed to the ER and they covered 90% of the extremely expensive ER bill. I am so thankful that we have Healthy Paws!
A 390% premium increase in six years. We purchased Healthy Paws pet insurance in 2020 for approximately $42/month. Our premium is now $206/month — an increase of approximately 390%, taking our annual cost from $504 to $2,472. Last year, Healthy Paws justified another substantial increase by claiming they previously didn’t know the breed of our dog. This was after approximately five years of coverage. To be absolutely clear, our dog’s breed was provided to Healthy Paws on our original application in 2020. They knew his breed from the beginning. Now we’ve received yet another increase, bringing the premium to $206/month, with approximately 24 hours’ notice before the new rate took effect. I understand insurance premiums increase over time. What I don’t consider reasonable is a premium becoming nearly five times its original cost in six years, while longtime customers are increasingly boxed in because switching insurers with an older pet can mean previously developed conditions are treated as pre-existing. If you’re considering Healthy Paws because the initial premium looks affordable, understand that our experience was: 2020: $42/month 2026: $206/month Increase: ~390% I wish someone had warned us in 2020.
Healthy Paws is a scam. They don't cover things that they say they do, "because of policy changes." What? They also dramatically increased my coverage amount and did not tell me. I did not catch it on my credit card statement for two months and they will not refund the difference!
I never have to haggle about coverage. The process claims quickly and on the rare occasion that there is an issue it is always quickly and fairly resolved. I would recommend Healthy Paws to anyone.
Painless, lightning fast; grateful we have Healthy Paws
We have been with Healthy Paws for many years, starting when our pup, a husky mix, was relatively young. He has always been active and healthy and we never had any problems, so to be honest I was becoming irritated when as he got older our premiums began to increase even though we had never even filed a claim. That all changed when he was incidentally diagnosed with cancer as the result of an ultrasound well into his 15th year. We have had thousands of dollars of vet bills as the results of imaging, chemotherapy, and radiation. Healthy Paws has been amazing - the claims process is so incredibly fast and easy, and reimbursements have been received promptly, often within 24 hours. No objections, no hassles; completely painless. In this incredibly stressful time I have been so thankful that we have had this insurance. We never could have provided this level of care for our beloved pup without it. And he is still with us at well over 16 years of age; we are grateful for every moment. We can recommend Healthy Paws without reservation.
I would definitely recommend Healthy Paws for your Pet insurance. My dog has been insured with them for 11 years now and I have always had very positive experiences with them. It’s very easy to file your claims through the app and payment is quick and easy. Their customer service is very helpful and all of my experiences with them have been positive. There are so many pet insurance companies out there but I have decided to stick with Healthy Paws and I am so happy that I did.
Very prompt payment on large bill for my dog's surgery. My claim was submitted on 7/23 & payment was processed on 7/24! Note: all required documentation was submitted with claim. A pleasure to work with.
It was easy enough to send my dog's medical records for review and there was timely communication and updates about the process. After my claim was reviewed I was notified I would receive a reimbursement check within 3-5 business days. That time has now come and gone and I am still waiting for the check.
Healthy Paws where the customer pays for the Company's mistakes
I've used them for quite awhile and up until recently, I've been very happy with them. Like others have commented I signed up for $100/90% & $250/80% on my dogs (one pet, one Service Dog). We have been customers for at least 6 years. Premiums have gone up drastically to more than $330/month. While not thrilled with the massive rate hikes, I understood and never complained. I just received a generic letter saying, in October they are dropping to $500/70%. I have no idea if this is both dogs or just one. They didn't bother to explain. In pet health insurance, they have you over a barrel. You can really only shop around when they are puppies. Most recently, I put in a claim for Cody. The Vet had made a mistaken charge for my other dog (my Service Dog) on that bill & issued a separate, very clear negative charge. 1 - I only submitted a claim for one dog, Cody. 2 - There was a very clear second page with a full negative/reversed charge for my other dog, Healthy Paws started processing a claim for my other dog anyway. As soon as I saw a pending claim for my SD, I immediately called to alert them to their mistake. It took at least an hour for Howard to comprehend the issue. It's not that difficult. You are processing a claim for something that was charged and immediately reversed. Also, a claim that I did not submit. Do not process that claim. How hard is that? He supposedly cancelled the claim. The next morning I discover they went ahead and paid out on a clear negative charge. They processed and paid it despite their Customer Service claiming he cancelled it. They processed a claim I didn't submit & paid it despite the paperwork being very clear the charge was reversed. So, of course, another long and very unhelpful call to Customer Service. Now, mistakes happen, but you would think the company would own up to their mistakes, not waste hours of the customer's time & expect the customer to have to pay for their error. Not Healthy Paws. Multiple calls & multiple hours of my time wasted. I asked for a supervisor and was told I would get a callback. More than 5 hours later someone allows the phone to ring once & immediately hangs up. My phone was in my hand, they hung up so quickly I couldn't even unlock my phone fast enough. I then receive an email from someone named "Riz" claiming he was "unable to reach" me. Dialing a number and hanging up as soon as it starts to ring is not being "unable to reach" someone. That's just being rude and not wanting to do your job. Despite their errors, I now have to pay to send their money back. Why should the customer have to pay a single penny for the Company's mistakes? I now have to issue a payment from my bank back to them for their mistake, which costs me a fee. They refuse to make any efforts to reverse the payment. They refuse to put a credit on the account. What I've learned, being honest not only wasted hours of my time; but now costs me money for their mistake. Let me add, I was never thanked for alerting them to their mistake. I was talked down to when I corrected Howard that one dog was a Service Dog and not a pet. The closest thing to an apology for costing me money to pay for their mistake is "Apology for any inconvience." That's not an apology. That's not, we made a mistake, let's work together to fix it. It's, we don't care and we are incompetent. Customer Service for this Company is awful. Now, I'm sure I'll get their response "call Customer Service so we can help you". I've already described how unhelpful that is. Between their massive rate hikes, drastically dropping coverage deductibles and copay percentages once your dog gets older, and rude, dismissive, and incompetent customer service, I can no longer recommend this company.
My dog has been very sick and the vet bills were very high and unexpected. I am easily able to submit the invoices for reimbursement and and paid within 48 hours. It really helps me concentrate on my dog getting better Thank you Healthy Paws.
We have had Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for Henry for 10 1/2 years. They are an outstanding company. Henry was recently very sick and had to be taken to the emergency vet. Insurance was worth every penny. Thank you for being a great company to work with. Henry is here today, in part, because of Healthy Paws. Totally recommend.
I can not rave enough about Healthy Paws pet insurance. They have supported and covered my dog through some very serious medical issues. They have always assessed and processed our claims quickly and direct deposited our reimbursement within days. I wish all insurance companies treated their customers the way Healthy Paws does.
Thank you to the Healthy Paws team for the wonderful service they provided for my best buddy. Submitting the claim was an easy upload. I was notified all documentation was received properly and the claim was reviewed. They also reached out to make sure recuperation was on track and to see how my buddy was doing. The reimbursement followed in a timely manner. I've had Healthy Paws 9 years now, since puppyhood, and I m very pleased with their interactions and handling of claims. I highly recommend Healthy Paws!
