Been using Ancestry for many years and been able to use it to find and fill in the information for my relatives and projects that I am working on. the use of newspapers.com has been very valuable also. The the use of the catalogs, such as the directories. Knowing the name, birth and death and filling in your relative with ease
I placed an order in June never got it. I contacted support and they sent me a replacement kit. It's now august and I never received a kit. The one thing I will say is that support was very helpful in both situations.
Always feel that my questions are answered properly.
I've reached out with questions quite a few times. Everyone seems to answer my questions well. If I am confused about how something works on their end, they explain it so that I easily can understand. I always end the chat by feeling that they are excellent at what they do.
When my sister and I started on ancestry.com we knew nothing of our families. On our father’s side we only knew grandparents. Our mother was adopted so we knew nothing. After searching documents and following many hints we traced our father’s line back to the Netherlands from his father and back to Scotland from his mother. Through DNA matches we met many cousins and corresponded with them. Last year we all met in person at a Family Reunion. Also through DNA matches we connected with cousins on our mother’s side and identified her biological parents. Thru Lines is very helpful identifying DNA matches. It also fills in family names that were missing from my tree.
I Thought I Had Cancelled, But I Was Charged Again
I was disappointed with Ancestry's cancellation and billing process. I believed I had cancelled my subscription a month ago, but I was charged again because the cancellation wasn't actually complete. The process is misleading. After initiating the cancellation, the second page makes it appear as though your subscription has been cancelled. In reality, you have to scroll to the very bottom of the page, navigate through additional retention offers, and complete another step before the cancellation is finalized. This isn't made clear, and it's easy to think you're done when you're not. A cancellation process should be straightforward and transparent, not one that causes customers to unintentionally remain subscribed. I would encourage Ancestry to make the final cancellation step much more obvious so customers don't experience unexpected charges like I did. Based on my experience, the cancellation flow was unnecessarily confusing and made it very easy to miss the final cancellation step. As a result, I was charged for another month of service that I genuinely believed I had already cancelled. For a subscription that costs nearly $40 per month, customers deserve a cancellation process that is clear and unambiguous.
Don't touch this lot, they took £134 from our credit card and I tried and tried to get a refund but to no avail, had to block them through credit card company in the end to stop anymore payments.
being able to see my family history was cool. i was able to go back pretty far on one side, but not the other. i didn't use this enough to justify the monthly cost, so i canceled only to find out they charge a $25 cancelation fee!! what?? that's just dumb.
It's a more straight forward app to use, plus I have already gotten in touch with and met relatives who would have been lost to time. I also believe it's more accurate with both DNA and records to verify potential family members.
I needed to tell Ancestry that one of its pieces of central information was incorrect - the name of one town. Whenever you search for anything to do with that town in any of Ancestry's records, the search option for the name of that town is incorrect. I spoke with Seán at Ancestry.com, he understood my problem straight away and promised to get the error corrected.
They are helpful with any question about anything , for examample if you have an issue on the site, they are ready to help you! Also, they are excited to hear about your discoveries on your family tree!!
Great database. Easy to use. Recurring issues with duplicate hints and pages not loading. Ancestry DNA does not give information needed by WikiTree on DNA segments.
Do not expect any support or problem resolution if you have an issue. I’ve spent weeks trying to get a refund but it has been made intentionally difficult.
Misleading “Famous Ancestor” feature has destroyed my confidence in Ancestry I have spent considerable time building my family tree on Ancestry and have also provided the company with my DNA data. I therefore expected its features to distinguish clearly between verified evidence, user-generated speculation and possible hints. Instead, Ancestry’s app has started presenting alleged “Famous Ancestor” connections as established facts. It told me, “Did you know you are related to Daniel Baker?” and placed the result beneath the heading “Your famous ancestor”. There are two major problems. First, Ancestry’s own relationship description said Daniel Baker was supposedly my “half 6th cousin 6x removed”. A distant cousin is not an ancestor. Second, the connection was traced through a long chain of unsupported and apparently incorrect relationships, including highly questionable early family-tree entries. There was no prominent warning explaining that the result may have been assembled from unverified user-created trees, that Ancestry had not validated each parent-child relationship, or that DNA evidence had not necessarily been used. This is not an isolated technical error. Other users have reported similarly impossible connections involving step-relatives, confused identities, incorrect parents and people supposedly having children after their deaths. Ancestry is a paid genealogy service, not a novelty horoscope app. Presenting speculative crowd-sourced connections with language such as “Did you know” gives them an authority they do not deserve. It risks contaminating genuine family research and misleading users who understandably assume that Ancestry has performed some meaningful verification. I have now lost confidence in the reliability and integrity of the platform and am seeking cancellation and a refund. At an absolute minimum, this feature should be labelled clearly as an unverified possible connection, with the evidence supporting every generational link available for inspection. Until Ancestry addresses this, I cannot recommend the service.
