The second trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home is so full of Avengers: Endgame spoilers that they actually had Tom Holland give fans a spoiler warning at the very beginning of it, an irony that shouldn’t escape anyone who follows Mr Holland’s exploits on social media. But the spoilers aside, it does also give us our first real look at the post-Endgame MCU, and the consequences of both Thanos’ snap and the return of the population…and more.
Here’s that trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet.
Mysterio is actually Quentin Beck from…an alternate Earth? Nick Fury reveals that Thanos’ snap opened up the door to the multiverse. If this is true, the implications for the future of the MCU are pretty insane (and, among other things, could set up Secret Wars down the road). UNLESS…
What if Mysterio is a fraud? In nearly every version of the character, Quentin Beck is a special effects expert and a master of deception. What if those elemental creatures Spidey and SHIELD are fighting aren’t actual interdimensional entities but rather hi-tech creations of Beck himself? He’d have to be exceptionally good to fool SHIELD, I admit, but this is such a radical departure, and introducing the concept of a multiverse in a Spider-Man movie would never…oh, wait, never mind!
In any case, don’t be fooled, Beck is still the villain of this movie.
